Gimhae Minerva Edu to Promote AI Digital Education in the Philippines
Minerva Edu, an innovative EdTech company from Gimhae, has committed to providing quality educational services and content to educational institutions in the Philippines to realize the values of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On August 8, during its summer robotics volunteer program, Minerva Edu signed a business agreement with Cordova Catholic Cooperative School (CCCS) in Cebu, a Catholic institution, to utilize and supply its AI digital education content platform, "Kurum-e."
CCCS corresponds to middle and high school levels in Korea and currently has over 1,900 students enrolled.
Unlike children in Korea, who are familiar with digital devices like smartphones and computers from a young age, Filipino students typically learn how to operate computers only in middle or high school, and they are introduced to basic software like Excel and PowerPoint in college. Consequently, there is a high demand among local teachers for education in AI, robotics, software, and electronic devices.
To address this, Minerva Edu has agreed to supply its team project-based collaboration tool "Kurum-e" to help Filipino students adapt to advanced education through STEAM education and Project-Based Learning (PBL) from the foundational stages of computer education. The current version of Kurum-e is available only in Korean, but a multilingual version 3.0, featuring translation functions, is set to be launched in mid-October.
Additionally, the two institutions have committed to providing a curriculum that enables students to receive an education comparable to that of Korea. They have also promised to jointly develop relevant content to provide suitable AI digital education services for local students.
Choo Cheol-min, CEO of Minerva Edu, stated, “We entered into this agreement to move one step closer to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, which include ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education, promoting sustainable economic growth, and reducing inequalities between countries. We hope this will help improve the local education level. We will continue to strive to spread quality education around the world, living up to our title as a global EdTech company.”
